Young People

This portion of our website is dedicated to the young people of our congregation and their families. Our goal here at McFarland Lutheran Church is to provide many and different opportunities for young people to grow in faith and participation in the body of Christ. The seven faith practices of our congregation: WORSHIP, PRAY, STUDY, INVITE, ENCOURAGE, SERVE and GIVE, guide what kinds of opportunities and events we seek to provide for our young people.

CONTACT ME, ADD YOUR IDEAS, GET INVOLVED . . .

This fall is a growing opportunity for both me and the youth programs here at MLC. Our Church is full of opportunities and activities, but there are always new ventures on the horizon. There are many people I know very well, and many more I am just beginning to know. Feel free to contact me, add your ideas, and get involved. I am excited about the path ahead of us!

SUMMER FESTIVAL

Here at McFarland Lutheran Church Summer Festival is the week long camp experience for our High School Students.  Our youth have loved this experience and often ask to go back again and again!

WHAT IS SUMMER FESTIVAL?

Every year a phenomenon takes place as hundreds of teenagers invade a college campus for a week at a time. From the opening greeting to the final hugs farewell something unique takes place. It’s hard to pinpoint if it’s the absurd games, the challenging speakers, the caring adults, the uncontrollable laughter, or the honest time to talk, but somewhere it hits you, this isn’t your normal summer camp.

For a week during the summer, teens have the chance to get away from real life. Students have the opportunity to hang out with people from all across the Midwest, to deepen friendships and to talk about God. Every day speakers come to share inspiring and challenging stories about real life, God and where the two intertwine. The days are packed with fun surprises of all kinds. From the music to the movies, to games, speakers and club all with laughter to tears Summer Fest really has something for everybody.

There are two qualities that set Summer Festival apart. The first is we understand that camp needs to be more than a one week event. We make sure that when a church decides to come to Summer Fest that they bring their own adult leader from the church. This way there is a familiar face going into the experience, as well as someone who can share the experience with teens when camp is over. The second quality is we are a non-denominational camp. By focusing on what really binds us, Jesus Christ, we are able to minister to teens from every walk of life. Because there is an adult along and there is discussion time every day, the students get to debrief and try to relate how the day's lessons connect to their faith journey. Another advantage of being non-denominational is that students can bring anyone of their friends without fear if they will fit in.

Souper Bowl of Caring

Each year on Super-Bowl Sunday our congregation participates in the Souper Bowl of Caring. Young people all across this country join together to “love their neighbors” by collecting canned goods and money to feed the hungry. Our young people take a door offering at our worship services and collect canned goods. The money collected goes directly to the McFarland Food Pantry. The canned goods also stay in our community.
